My journey to becoming a doula began with the birth of my son in 2004. He was born at a local hospital where I was induced and received the "cascade of interventions" that often accompanies inductions.  After much processing and thinking about my birth I realized that I wished I would have had the support of someone knowledgeable, caring, and informed by my side.  I realized that every woman deserves that support during this special time in their life.  It was then that I decided to become a doula, so that I could provide the care, information and knowledge to women during their birthing time and beyond. I also act as an advocate to interpret information from caregivers and help moms and their partners express their wishes. During labor, I employ several comfort measures such as acupressure, aromatherapy, rebozos, and help with positioning.

I trained as a birth doula through DONA, International in 2008 and trained as a hypno-doula through Hypnobabies in 2008 as well.  Eventually, I would like to become a midwife and I just attended a wonderful midwifery assistant workshop with Stacie Hunt, a midwife at the Farm.

I hold a BS in Forestry from NCSU and in my free time I love to read, hang out with my family, do crafty stuff, travel, and learn new things.
